The shared layout, inline editing, and slide-in preview used by companies, people, projects, and deals
Companies, people, projects, and deals now open in the same Record Rail layout.
Every detail page — a company, a contact, a project, or a deal/opportunity — now uses a single, consistent layout called the Record Rail. Once you learn it on one record type, you know it on all of them: the facts always live in the same place, you edit a value by clicking it, and the row-click slide-in shows the same information as the full page. There are no per-field edit buttons and no separate “edit mode” for changing a single field.
A left rail of facts, a tabbed main panel, and a pinned next action.
On a wide screen the page splits into two columns. The left railholds the record's facts; the main panel on the right groups everything else into four tabs.
Overview, Activity, Related, and Files — the same on every record type.
The value cell is the input — there are no pencil buttons and no single-field edit form.
To change a field, click its value. The value turns into an input, you type (or pick from a dropdown, date picker, or record search), and the change saves on its own when you click away or press Enter. A brief check mark confirms the save. There is no “Save” button on individual fields and no pencil icon to hunt for — the cell itself is the edit affordance. Press Esc to cancel an edit in progress.
A focused panel for editing many fields at once or complex custom fields.
Inline editing is for changing one value at a time. When you want to edit several fields together — or work with multi-value and rich custom fields — click Edit in the header to open the focused Edit panel. That panel keeps the explicit Save (or Cmd+S), warns you about unsaved changes, and hosts the archive and delete actions. In short: editing data is inline and silent; editing many fields at once is the Edit panel with a Save button.
Keep the rail dense by hiding fields that have no value.
By default the rail hides fields that are empty, so you see only the data that exists. To fill in a blank field, use the Show empty fields toggle at the bottom of the rail to reveal every field, then click the one you want and start typing. Toggle it back to Hide empty fields to return to the compact view.
Clicking a row in any list opens a compact, fully editable preview.
From any list — companies, people, projects, or deals — clicking a row opens a slide-in panel from the right that leaves the list partly visible behind it. This slide-in is the sameOverview you would see on the full page: the Highlights block plus the key associated records. It is not a read-only preview — you can edit every field right there exactly as you would on the full page.
Inline editing respects your role.
If your role does not include edit access for that record type, the rail renders read-only: values show as plain text, there is no edit cursor, and the keyboard edit shortcuts do nothing. You will see a short “View only” note rather than an edit affordance you cannot use.
The same layout, stacked for smaller screens.
On narrower screens the left rail moves above the main panel as a full-width Highlights strip with collapsible detail sections, and the tabs scroll horizontally. The row-click slide-in becomes a bottom-sheet that slides up from the bottom of the screen with the Highlights pinned at the top. Tapping a value opens the on-screen keyboard or a full-width picker, and the change saves when the keyboard is dismissed.
