Creating Records Quickly

One New button that opens the full create form for a deal, person, company, task, or project, from anywhere in the CRM

What quick create is

One create path, reachable from everywhere, that opens the real form.

Quick create is the shortcut for adding a record without first navigating to its page. You ask for a new record, you pick what kind it is if the CRM does not already know, and the full create form for that kind opens on top of whatever you were doing. When you save, the list, board, or dashboard behind it refreshes on its own and you land back where you started.

It opens the whole form, not a cut-down one
Quick create is a shortcut to the create form, not a smaller version of it. Whichever kind you pick, you get exactly the same fields, the same pickers, and the same required-field rules you would get from that entity's own New button. Nothing is hidden behind a second step, and this is true on a phone as well as on a computer.

Where to find it

Several doors, all of them the same room.

  • On a phone. Tap More in the bottom bar. The New button sits at the top of the sheet, next to search. Tapping it closes the sheet and opens the kind picker.
  • The keyboard. Press c anywhere in the CRM to open the kind picker. It is ignored while you are typing in a field, and a few pages that already use c for something of their own keep their own meaning.
  • Global search. Open search and type a create verb, such as New deal. The five entity verbs open quick create directly instead of taking you to a separate page. Other create verbs, such as a quote or a campaign, still go to their own screens.
  • Your dashboard. The Create menu on the home dashboard routes company, deal, and contact through quick create.
  • From a list or a board. The New button on the Companies, People, Deals, Tasks, and Projects pages, and the plus control at the head of a board column, all open quick create with the kind already decided.
The sidebar New button is a different thing
On a computer the blue New button at the top of the sidebar opens the activity and task composer, for logging a call, a meeting, or a to-do. It is not the quick create described here. Use c, global search, or a page's own New button when you want a company, person, deal, task, or project.

The five kinds

What quick create can make.

Quick create covers the five core record types, and the picker always lists them in the same order:

FieldDescription
New dealAn opportunity, with its pipeline, stage, value, and close date. Opened from a board column, it arrives with that stage and pipeline already filled in.
New personA contact. Opened from a company record or from a quote or invoice that needs a contact, it arrives already linked to that company.
New companyAn organization record, with the full company form behind it.
New taskA to-do. Opened from a task board column, it arrives with that status already set. Requires permission to create tasks.
New projectA project, with its own stages and task board. Requires permission to create projects.
Activities are not in this list
Logging a call, a meeting, or a note is a separate composer with its own controls, so it is deliberately not one of the five kinds here. Reach it from the sidebar New button, or from the activity timeline on any record.

The kind picker

What you see when the CRM does not already know what you are making.

Some doors already know the kind. Pressing New on the Deals page, or the plus on a board column, goes straight to that form. The doors that do not know, such as More > New and the c shortcut, show a picker first.

1

On a phone, the picker is a sheet

A short sheet titled Create rises from the bottom with one large row per kind. Tap a row to go straight to that form. Tap outside it, or drag it down, to back out without creating anything.
2

On a computer, the picker is a small card

A narrow centered card lists the same five rows. Click one to advance. The card has a close control in its top right, and pressing Escape closes it.
3

Going back

Once a kind is chosen the form takes over the surface, so the picker is no longer on screen. Closing the form closes quick create entirely rather than returning you to the list of kinds. Open it again with c if you picked the wrong kind.

What the form does

Prefilled values, full-screen on a phone, and a refresh you do not have to ask for.

  • It arrives prefilled where that makes sense. Values carried in from where you opened it, such as a board column's stage or a company you were looking at, are filled in before you start typing. Anything you then change stays changed: a prefilled value is a starting point, never something the form writes back over your edit.
  • On a phone it fills the screen. The form takes the whole display above the keyboard, so fields never end up underneath it. On a computer it slides in from the right at its usual width.
  • Saving refreshes what is behind it. Create a deal from the board and the board repaints with it. Create a person from a quote and the quote picks the new contact up. You do not need to reload the page.
  • Closing without saving discards the draft. Each open starts clean, so what you typed and abandoned last time is not waiting for you the next time you open it.

When a kind is not offered

Permissions decide what the picker shows.

Creating tasks and creating projects are permissions your role either has or does not. If yours does not, that kind is simply left out of the picker rather than shown and then refused. If you reach one of those kinds another way without the permission, quick create tells you plainly that you do not have permission to create it and does not open a form that could only fail. Ask an admin to adjust your role, which is covered in Roles & Permissions.

The calendar has its own quick create

A deliberately different, faster path for events.

The calendar does not use the picker described above, and that is on purpose. Making an event is mostly about a time, and you have usually already chosen the time by clicking the grid, so the calendar answers with a small purpose-built creator instead of a general one.

1

Open it

Click any empty time slot or day cell, or use the Create control. On a phone the round create button floats above the bottom bar. A small panel opens next to where you clicked, rather than a full composer sliding in.
2

Fill in the fast fields

It opens on Add title with the date and time already set from the slot you clicked. Below that are optional rows you add only if you need them: guests, a location, a notification, a description, a linked company, and a video meeting row that matches whichever calendar you connected. Switching the item from an event to a task hides the rows a task cannot use.
3

Save, or ask for more

Save writes the event and closes the panel. More options opens the full activity composer instead, carrying everything you have already typed across, so nothing is retyped when you decide part way through that you need the wider form.
Two creators, on purpose
Both are correct. The global quick create is the general answer for records that are mostly fields, so it opens the real form for the kind you picked. The calendar creator is the specific answer for something that is mostly a time, so it stays small and hands off to the full composer the moment you ask for more. Neither one replaces the other.

The calendar creator is covered in more depth in Scheduling Activities, and the phone calendar in Calendar on Mobile.
