Team Chat Preferences

Set how Team Chat looks and behaves for you — message density, avatars, conversation previews, how you send messages, and which conversation list you land on

Two ways to open your Team Chat preferences

Tune Team Chat from a slide-in panel on the page, or from a full settings page.

Team Chat preferences control how the messaging inbox is presented to you — how tightly messages are packed, whether sender avatars and conversation previews show, which keystroke sends a message, and which conversation list Team Chat opens to. You can reach these preferences two ways, and they always show the same values:

  • The preferences panel— open it from the gear icon at the top of the conversation list on the Team Chatpage (the messaging inbox), next to the “New conversation” button. It slides in from the right so you can change a setting and see the inbox update behind it right away.
  • The settings page — go to Settings > Team Chat for the same controls laid out on a full page, useful when you want to review everything at once.
Your view, not everyone's
These preferences are personal to you and follow you across devices — they are stored on your account, not in one browser, so signing in anywhere brings the same Team Chat. Changing your density, avatars, or default list only affects how messaging looks for you. Your teammates keep their own preferences, and nothing here changes the conversations or messages themselves.

Layout & density

How conversations and messages are laid out for you.

FieldDescriptionTypeDefault
Message densityComfortable or Compact spacing for messages in the conversation view and rows in the conversation list. Comfortable gives each message a little more room; Compact tightens the spacing so more fits on screen. Message text always stays legible either way.SegmentedComfortable
Show avatarsShow sender avatars next to incoming messages in the conversation view. Turn this off for a tighter, text-first layout.ToggleOn
Show conversation previewsShow the last message under each conversation in the list. Turn this off to see just the conversation names, with no preview line.ToggleOn

Composer

How you write and send messages.

FieldDescriptionTypeDefault
Send messages withChoose which keystroke sends a message. With Enter to send, pressing Enter sends and Shift+Enter starts a new line. With ⌘/Ctrl+Enter, bare Enter starts a new line and ⌘+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows) sends — handy if you write multi-line messages.SegmentedEnter to send

Default view

What Team Chat opens to when you land on it.

FieldDescriptionTypeDefault
Default filterThe conversation-list tab Team Chat opens on: All, Unread, Starred, or Deal Rooms. You can still switch tabs at any time — this just decides where the list starts each time you open Team Chat.DropdownAll

Notifications

Where your message notification settings live — this panel points at them.

Message notifications aren't a Team Chat view preference, so the panel doesn't duplicate them — it links out to where they already live, so there's never a second, conflicting copy of the setting:

FieldDescription
Message notificationsYour global level for new-message notifications. The "Manage notifications" link opens your Notification settings, where the new-message notification and its direct-messages-only scope are configured.
Per-conversation muteTo mute a single conversation or set it to mentions-only, right-click it (or long-press on mobile) in the conversation list and choose from the menu — that per-conversation control is separate from your global level and isn’t changed here.

Appearance

A related setting lives on its own page — the panel points at it.

Theme is an app-wide setting rather than a Team Chat one, so the panel links out to it instead of duplicating it:

FieldDescription
Appearance / themeThe light, dark, and accent theme for the whole app. Opens your Appearance settings via the "Manage appearance" link. There is deliberately no Team-Chat-only theme.

Saving and syncing

Changes save themselves and follow you everywhere.

There is no Save button. Every change you make autosaves the moment you make it, and a brief Saved confirmation appears to let you know it stuck (you may see a quick Saving…first). Because the panel and the settings page read and write the same preferences, a change in one shows up in the other immediately — and because they are stored on your account rather than in the browser, they follow you to any device you sign in on.

Defaults preserve your current view
Out of the box these preferences match how Team Chat already looks — comfortable spacing, avatars and previews on, Enter to send, and the All conversation list. Nothing changes until you change it, so you can leave the panel untouched and Team Chat stays exactly as it is.
